My work is divided into many creative areas. My first love is painting, so that is what I do. I really enjoy painting plein air, which basically means sitting outside painting the view. It is the only way to absorb the atmosphere of a location. There are challenges with changing light, and of course the weather. This was especially noticable when I took part in Sky Arts landscape artist of the year as a wildcard. If there is not time to create an entire painting outside, then some sketches will be enough to bring back to my studio and be worked into a full painting. Studio work allows for additional creativity and experiments. This is when I work on my deconstruction and reconstruction collages and acrylic pouring or mixed media.
I have been working with the SAA for some time. I have been involved with demonstrating at the ‘All About Art’ shows in London, where I was working with Daler Rowney and the Georgian water mixable oils. I took part in the tv series ‘Fraser and Friends’ painting with Fraser Scarf in Ware in Hertfordshire. I have taken workshop sessions at the SAA headquarters in Newark. I have also created a dvd with the SAA ‘Paint pour and play with Denise Allen’
The dvd comes from demonstrations I have been doing on the tv shopping channel Hochanda using Pebeo mixed media paints.
I have been demonstrating to Art societies and groups for many years. I am invited to a group and over the course of a couple of hours I will demonstrate a particular subject or style. Contact me if you would like more information. Examples of demonstrations click here. Of you can contact Art Profile who manage demonstrations across the uk.
I have been running painting holidays for around 10 years. The majority of these have been with Balearic Outdoor Holidays, mainly on the stunning island of Menorca. We have many guests who return year after year, and who have become friends. Alongside the painting holidays, there are walking and cycling holidays available. We pride ourselves on our personal service and attention to detail. I also run short breaks in Norfolk and Suffolk. See here for details.
